On 15th of May 2014, Mr. Roberto Azevedo, Director-General of the World Trade Organization, gave a special guest lecture at Seoul National University under the title “The Current Status and Role of the WTO: Multilateral Trading System”.
He noted that the Bali package, once fully implemented, promises significant gains particularly in trade facilitation. By streamlining customs procedures, the agreements could bring about 1 trillion dollars per year to the world economy. Mr. Azevedo said that the successful implementation of the agreement rests on providing technical assistance and capacity building to the lesser developed countries and it is highly important the donor countries respond to these needs.
