SNU GSIS BK21 FOUR Program hosts various events inviting prominent figures to deliver distinguished lectures with our Special Lecture Series.

For our twenty second session, we are inviting Associate Professor Yoon Yong from Chulalongkorn University from Faculty of Economics.

He will talk on the theme of "The Future of ASEAN and Korea's Role."

*Abstract: 

Following a brief overview of the development and the current situation of ASEAN and ASEAN nations, I will discuss a number of contentious points including how ASEAN and EU are different, the geo-politics of ASEAN nations, and Korea’s role and relationship with ASEAN. I will make three main arguments, namely, the “weak” ASEAN owing to its lack of a “supra-national” court or judicial system as in the EU, the missed opportunities in emphasizing the importance of the sea in ASEAN geo-politics, and Korea’s limited role in ASEAN as well as the prospects of Korea’s emerging soft power in the region.

The session is open to all SNU GSIS students, but participation is strongly encouraged for BK fellows.
