SNU GSIS BK21 FOUR Program hosts various events inviting prominent figures to deliver distinguished lectures with our Special Lecture Series.
For our twelfth session, we have Professor Sim Choon Kiat from the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences of Showa Women's University, who will lecture on the theme: “The Achievements, Background, and Characteristics of Singapore's Education System.”

*Abstract: Issues related to manpower are matters of survival in small and resource-scarce Singapore. This is the reason why the city-state adopts a meritocratic and multi-track education system to enhance the quality of its people regardless of ability, race, gender, or other factors. This lecture aims to shed light on the reality of education in Singapore and to review the pros and cons of tracking students, i.e. separating them by interest or ability level especially at a young age.
