[DEADLINE EXTENDED] CALL FOR PAPERS--PRAXIS: The Fletcher Journal of Human Security

Official Notice
2016-12-06

Now in its third decade, PRAXIS: The Fletcher Journal of Human Security provides a platform for cutting-edge research that explores the links between the theory and practice of human security. Together with the Institute for Human Security at The Fletcher School, the journal explores the intersections between the historically separate fields of humanitarianism, development, human rights, and conflict resolution.

For its 2016-2017 issue, PRAXIS invites articles from scholars and practitioners to stimulate productive dialogue on the use of technology in conflict prevention, mitigation, and resolution. Since the end of the Cold War and more noticeably in the 21st century, the world has seen many intra-state conflicts spiral along a protracted trajectory of violence and political polarization. And while the number of inter-state conflicts has dwindled, these new internal conflicts involve a variety of governments, quasi-governments, non-state armed groups, non-profit organizations, private companies, and influential individuals. Each of these actors has different capabilities and interests that may be enhanced and reconciled with recent technological advances in social media, network analysis, geographic mapping etc.

The PRAXIS editorial team is seeking research, opinion, review pieces, and notes from the field to enrich the policy world’s collective understanding of how technology is and can be used to help different actors work together across sectors and borders to prevent, limit, and respond to conflict.

Topics may include, but are not limited to, how technology interacts with:

  • Efficient governance and political inclusion/exclusion in conflict zones
  • Non-profit and/or cross-sector partnerships in conflict zones
  • Crisis management
  • New conceptions of war and the use of force
  • The politics of human security
  • Innovations in dealing with climate change for disaster and conflict risk reduction

Submission Guidelines:

  • Review and opinion pieces should be between 3-5 double-spaced pages.
  • Notes from the field should be no more than 8 double-spaced pages.
