PROFILE

Hyun-Chul Kim is a professor of International Area studies at Graduate School of International Studies, Seoul National University. He is a former dean of GSIS and former director of Center for Japanese Studies, Seoul National University. Professor Kim has a B.A. and M.A. in Business Administration from Seoul National University, and a Ph.D. in Business Administration from Keio Business School. He was the recipient of POSCO overseas study fellowship, and before returning to Korea in 2002, he taught as an assistant professor at Nagoya University of Commerce and associate professor at Tsukuba University in Japan. While in Japan, he served in a Committee for METI (Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Japan). He also worked as an advisor or lecturer to several corporations including Nippon Steel, Toyota Motor, Nissan Motor, Fuji Xerox, Canon, Kao, Asahi Beer, Eizai, Kibun World, etc. After returning to Korea in 2002, Professor Kim served as an advisory professor for corporations such as Samsung Electronics, Hyundai Motor, SK Telecom, LG, Amore Pacific, Korail, Aekyung, Nexen Tire, AJ, BGF retail, TSE, Paradise Industry, etc. Professor Kim published several books and articles, both in Korean, Japanese, Chinese and Russian. Professor Kim also served as the Advisor to the President to Economic Affairs, Office of the President, the Republic of Korea. He was also the chairman of the Presidential Committee  on New Southern Policy.
