For our twenty fourth session, we are inviting Senior Research Fellow of National Institute of International Strategy, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (NISS,CASS) and Professor of University of CASS, Dong Xiangrong
She will talk on the theme of "Perception and Misperception between China and South Korea".
Please refer to below for further details:
*Abstract:
The exchange between China and Korea has a truly long history of thousands of years. It’s almost as long as the history of Eastern Asian civilization. Both sides have formed complex perceptions of the shared and entangled history, cognitions of the other party, and contemporary people's understandings of the past. In many cases, perception itself can become a factor affecting the relationship and even cause cultural disputes and conflicts between the two countries. In order to enhance mutual understanding, both sides need to follow some principles: First, focusing on the integrity of history and rather than interpreting history selectively; Second, Interpreting the history with historical ideas of that time rather than concepts of contemporary international relations; Third, viewing the cultural heritages as legacies of humankind rather than the intellectual property of an individual country; Fourth, trying to understand the other country without ignoring the actual conditions of it.Participation is mandatory for BK Fellows (absence in BK events may affect next semester's selection).
Thank you.
