Dear all,

This is a notice for the upcoming SLS 33 on 11 October (Fri).

SNU GSIS BK21 FOUR Program hosts various events inviting prominent figures to deliver distinguished lectures with our Special Lecture Series.

For our 33th session, we are inviting Jong-Chul Kim, Attorney and Founder of Advocates for Public Interest Law (APIL).

He will talk on the theme of "The Reality of Refugees and Human Trafficking Victims in South Korea"

Please refer to the information below for more details:

Migrants are vulnerable just by virtue of their migration, and in our xenophobic society, they are even more vulnerable. But those who have been forced to migrate are arguably the most vulnerable. Refugees and human trafficking victims are typical examples of forced migrants.

Refugees are the most common forced migrants in Korea, and we want to find out what challenges they face in Korea and what advocacy work can be done for them. Victims of human trafficking can be divided into two categories: those trafficked for sexual exploitation and those trafficked for labor, and we want to find out in which sectors human trafficking occurs in Korea and what advocacy work can be done for them.

I will also explain how international human rights mechanisms can be utilized in advocacy for refugees and trafficking victims can utilize international human rights mechanisms in addition to litigations in Korean courts.
This session is open to all SNU GSIS students, but attendance is mandatory for BK fellows. (Attendance and meaningful participation will be highly recognized for next semester's selection.)
