Abstract
This talk examines Senegal’s landmark gender parity law, situating it within the mobilization and strategies of women’s organizations that made it possible. Far from simply echoing global models of gender equality, the law reflects a situated negotiation of representation rooted in Senegalese political culture and feminist thought. By tracing the advocacy, discourses, and institutional engagements that shaped the law, the talk highlights how activists advanced a vision of equality that challenges Western-centric paradigms and expands our theoretical understandings of democracy and inclusion. The Senegalese case thus illuminates how feminist struggles generate diverse pathways toward political representation, inviting us to reconsider the plurality of concepts and practices that define gender equality in a global context.

This session is open to all SNU GSIS students, but attendance is mandatory for BK fellows. (Attendance and meaningful participation will be highly recognized for next semester's selection.)

Thank you.
