Inauguration Ceremony of the International Complex & GSIS Annual Symposium 2013On March 27th, Inauguration Ceremony of the SNU-GSIS International Complex and the First GSIS Annual Symposium was held at the International Conference Room of newly constructed International Complex. SNU President Yeon-chun Oh, ambassadors of various countries, all GSIS professors and students attended to celebrate the event and the CEO of Kowhang Engineering & Construction, Mr. Jaesik Park, was presented the plaque of appreciation by Dean of GSIS. In the afternoon, the first GSIS Annual Symposium followed focusing on 'Changes in the World and the Future of Korea'. It was divided into two sessions about Korea's Politics and Diplomacy and Korea's Economy and Commerce. More photos can be accessed on facebook by searching "SNU GSIS".

2013 Spring Commencement CeremonyThe 2013 Spring Commencement Ceremony for Masters in International Studies and Masters in International Development Policy was held on February 26, 2013. In the commencement address, Dean Hwy-Chang Moon spoke to the students about the importance of internationalization in strengthening national competitiveness. Ms. Bee Yun Jo (‘11 Int’l Cooperation) then delivered the valedictorian speech on behalf of the student body. The ceremony was a celebration for all students and their family and friends of their endeavor and achievements at GSIS.

2013 GSIS Alumni ReunionThe 2013 GSIS Alumni Reunion was held on Friday, Jan 25th at Sochon Convention Hall. Alumna Yun-Kyung Yang (Int'l Coop. '00) conducted the event and President of the Alumni Association alumnus Jae-Won Jung (Area Studies '98) gave the welcoming address. Dean Hwy-Chang Moon and Professor Chong-Sup Kim made the congratulatory remarks. President Jung then delivered the Alumni Association's annual report and introduced the newly-appointed President alumnus Chang-Bin Woo (Int'l Commerce '98). After the ceremony, all GSIS alumni and students gathered at Sochon Lobby for a dinner buffet.

Minjung Kim (Doctoral candidate) was awarded the 2012 Best Young Scholar Thesis Award by the Korean Society of International Economic Law (KSIEL)Minjung Kim (Doctoral candidate) was awarded the 2012 Best Young Scholar Thesis Award by the Korean Society of International Economic Law (KSIEL) for her recent paper titled “Analysis on WTO Adjudication of US-Mexico Tuna Dispute II”. The thesis providing an in-depth legal analysis on a recent WTO dispute case had been previously presented at the KSIEL Seminar in November and was published in the latest issue of the Korean Journal of International Economic Law. Every year, KSIEL selects the year’s best published paper in the field of international economic law with a view to encourage young scholars’ academic performance and participation.

Wonkyu Shin ('10 Int’l Commerce, Doctoral candidate) won 1st place at the KIEA* Master’s/Doctorate and Post-Graduate Thesis Competition on Economic Affairs held at the 35th Anniversary of the KIEA Academic Seminar.Wonkyu Shin ('10 Int’l Commerce, Doctoral candidate) won 1st place at the KIEA* Master’s/Doctorate and Post-Graduate Thesis Competition on Economic Affairs held at the 35th Anniversary of the KIEA Academic Seminar. The prize was awarded based on a unanimous vote of a panel of specialists after a thorough and rigorous review process. Contenders were asked to write about any issue regarding current economic affairs. MA and Ph. D. students from the Department of Economics and the Graduate School of Business at universities including SNU, Sogang University and Yonsei University participated in the competition. The title of Mr. Shin’s award-winning piece is “The Effect of Intellectual Property Right on Export Varying under the Level of Technology: A Comparative Analysis of Developed and Developing Countries," which received high compliments from the judges regarding topic, methodology and both quantitative and qualitative analyses. *Korea International Economic Association

GSIS Sports DayGSIS-SNU held its very first Sports Day on September 9th 2012. The event’s main purpose was to enhance students’ sense of belonging, promote fellowship, and increase efficiency in studying through interaction and communication between students and faculty. Approximately 80 students from GSIS participated in the event, including 15 professors and staff members. It began with the Dean’s welcoming address. He said that he hopes the success of the event can realize the Sports Day as an annual event. Games in the morning included kickball and tug of war. Barbeque and other various types of food were provided by the Student Council for lunch. Afternoon games included soccer, limbo, team jump rope, and three-legged races. The winning team received their prizes during the closing ceremony and a group of students and professors moved to a nearby pub to celebrate the success of the Sports Day.

Presentations by CAMPUS Asia studentsOn November 8th, students' presentations by CAMPUS Asia students took place at GL-Room. Associate Dean for International Affairs Dukgeun Ahn and Professor Cheol-Hee Park also attended and enjoyed the presentations on various topics. Four groups of students each presented issues and ideas regarding trilateral relationship of Korea-China-Japan. The topics included Soft Power in East Asia, Education in Northeast Asia, Aging Society in Asia, and ExpandingCAMPUS Asia to Other Industries and Sectors. Professor Park chose the group that presented on aging society issues as the winning group and presented gifts to each member.
