Hyewon Lee was selected as a "JPO"

Hyewon Lee (International Cooperation ’04) was selected as one of this year's JPOs, having passed the exam administered by the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Hyewon, who is currently working as a researcher at the Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security, will start her 2-year JPO programme early next year. Congratulations! What is JPO? The Junior Professional Officer (JPO) Programme provides young professionals pursuing a career in International Organizations with hands-on experience. JPOs are sponsored by their respective governments and are dispatched to an International Organization for a period of 2 years. JPOs are assigned to work at organizations such as UNDP, UNICEF, UNIDO, UNHCR, IAEA, UNCTAD, UNV, WHO, ILO, UNESCO, and UNFPA. The JPO examination There is an age requirement as the JPO program is an entry-level professional position. Candidates must be under 30 years old as of 31 December of the year of the exam. Only a bachelor’s degree is required to apply, but generally successful applicants have a graduate-level degree and proficiency in at least one official U.N. language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) in addition to English.

Inauguration Ceremony of the SNU-KIEP EU Center

The Inauguration Ceremony of the SNU-KEIP EU center at Seoul National University was held at 5:00pm, 20 April 2006, Socheon Convention Hall, GSIS. The Center was established by the European Commission, Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS), SNU and Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP) to promote and enhance awareness of the EU and its policies as well as to develop education and research on European Studies in Korea. Ms. Benita Ferrero-Waldner, Member of the European Commission responsible for External Relations, delivered a speech under the title of "EU-Korea Relations: the Way Forward". Cae-One Kim, Chairman of Governing Board, EU Center, Jin-Hyun Paik, Director of EU Center and the Un-Chan Chung, President of SNU also gave congratulatory remarks to fellow honorable attendants and students.
