On April 15th, Anne O. Krueger, Professor of Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies
at Johns Hopkins University, Former First Deputy Managing Director of International Monetary
Fund(IMF), and Former Vice President of World Bank, visited GSIS and gave a lecture titled
“The Current Global Economic Slowdown and Asia.”

In her lecture, Prof. Krueger discussed the daunting challenges of the global crisis we face today
due to its complex mixture of the conventional Keinzian recession and the balance sheet recession.
Yet, her prospects for the world economy were optimistic in the short and medium-term while rather
pessimistic for the long-term. Meantime, she urged for the need of more global leadership coming
from Asian countries.
