On May 2nd, 2007, a distinguished lecture was given by prof. Alan V. Deardorff from John W. Sweetland Professor of International Economics, University of Michigan, on "What Should the Developing Countries Do in the Context of the Current Impasse of the Doha Round?”.

Prof. Alan V. Deardorff presented that Doha Round which was Intended to continue the multilateral trade liberalization of 50 years under the GATT and promised to give special attention to needs of developing countries. But it faced impasse because of both developed countries and developing countries.

He stressed if the Doha Round failed, then the best remaining options could be aid for trade, bilateral and regional FTAs, and unilateral liberalization in most, but not all, cases.
