Jong-Ho Jeong is a Professor of China Area Studies at the Graduate School of International Studies, Seoul National University (SNU) and the Director of the SNU China Center. He is also serving as the Dean for International Affairs at Seoul National University since December 2012. Professor Jeong graduated from Seoul National University with B.A.(1987) and M.A.(1990), received his Ph. D. (2000) in Anthropology from Yale University, and was a visiting scholar at Peking University, China and the Harvard-Yenching Institute, Harvard University. His Ph. D dissertation and subsequent publications have focused on the restructuring state-society relations in contemporary urban China. He is currently writing a book on China’s post-reform urban restructuring based on his long-term fieldwork on Zhejiangcun, the largest migrant settlement in Beijing. His research interests include social change and social stratification, internal and international migration, social capital and native-place networks, the rise of China’s soft power, changing local identity and Chinese nationalism, and China's higher education.
